Eto'o Claims Guardiola Was 'Disrepectful'

Cameroon striker Samuel Eto’o has criticised his former club boss Pep Guardiola for being disrespectful when the pair were working together at Barcelona during the 2008-09 season. The striker is regarded as one of the best in the world. He proved this during his final season at Barcelona, as he not only scored 30 goals over the course of the league campaign, but also fired in the winner in the Champions League final as well. It completed an astonishing season for the club, which also was the debut for Guardiola as a manager.

However, Eto’o has claimed that Guardiola was not respectful of him and his achievements. He also says that Guardiola was a mediocre player and the midfielder, but he was constantly giving advice to Eto’o about making runs on the field. The 33-year-old striker has played for the likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona, Inter Milan, and Chelsea. He signed only a one-year contract with Chelsea after his move from Anzhi Makhachkala, but he has so far proving to be an inspirational signing with goals against top teams like Manchester United, Liverpool, and Arsenal.

He has scored 11 goals and created seven in his first season at the club, but rumours still persist about a possible move to MLS in the summer.

"I first of all reminded Guardiola that he'd never been a great player. He was a good player, that's true. I told him. As a coach, he had proven nothing. He came in and didn't even know the story of the dressing room. Guardiola has never had the courage to say things in front of me. He passed by the players. Xavi told me they wanted me to stay but I had to talk to Pep. I say 'never, if you do not respect me, I do not respect you',” said Eto’o.
